Manga and anime are medium of storytelling that are both originated in Japan. These two both convey rich interesting stories with vigorous characters and settings that are entertaining to all different sex and ages. These two are both considered genre in English world. However, despite its similarity on visual styles, there are notable differences between these two.
Anime derives from the word animation which is also the term that refers to Japanese animation. It is like a loanword from English “animation”, then “anime” word eventually and technically borrowed and used as an English word. Anime is like cartoons in English however, cartoons used to tell children stories exclusively unlike anime that covers a wide-range of storylines and characters with both children and adult themes. Anime has clear visual features but uses limited style when describing a movement.

Manga are considered more original because of its original contents that are commonly self-published unlike anime that are mostly an adaptation from a pre-existing story. However, not all manga has its anime adaptation.
To simplify the difference, anime are TV shows or movies which can be watched by its patrons while manga are comic books or graphic novels intended for bibliophilias. Since Manga Series are in written and inked form, its publishing work is quicker compare to anime that requires long-month preparation for its production of each episode.
Despite its similarities and differences, both are incredibly accepted and patronized by Japanese audiences and even on the other part of the world. Some may love manga, some may indulge more on anime. But basically both give pleasure to its fans. Therefore, there is no way to tell which among the two is better than the other.
